St. Thomas takes team title and Gustavus' Harren wins second individual title at 2006 MIAC Championships

St. Paul, Minn. - The University of St. Thomas women's cross country team ended Carleton's two year reign as MIAC Champion on Saturday at Como Park Golf Course. The Tommies team total of 73 bested Carleton's second place finish of 92 points. St. Thomas' team championship is the 14th in team history, the most of any team in the MIAC. St. Olaf narrowly beat Gustavus for third place with 113 points compared to the Gusties 114. Saint Benedict rounded out the top five with 125 points.

2005 MIAC and NCAA individual champion Hailey Harren of Gustavus cruised to the 2006 individual title. Harren finished in 21:51.57, which broke her course record set last season. Bethel sophomore Nikki Umhoefer finished second with a time of 23:23.97. St. Thomas' Katie Theisen was third, Macalester's Callie PaStarr was fourth, and Hamline's Lacee Shrupp finished fifth.
