2002 MIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Track - St. Olaf College's junior Megan Daymont, (Northfield, Minn.) shattered the MIAC, school, meet and facility records in the 800 M at UW-River Falls Coca Cola Classic last Friday night. At this point, her time of 2:12.75 ranks number one in the country and is an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Daymont has also qualified automatically for nationals in the 1500m. Her performance ranks her among the top 5 nationally in that event as well. Daymont has the best times in the MIAC in the 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 meter runs and runs a leg on the fastest 4 X 400 M relay team.
Field - Concordia College senior Kelli Tranby (Moorhead, Minn.) won the long jump at the CSB/SJU Quad at St. John's this weekend. Tranby's winning jump was 17-8.25, which is the second best jump in the MIAC trailing only her own seasonal best of 17-11.5. She leads the MIAC by 7.5 inches and is ranked 20th on the NCAA Division III qualifying list. Tranby is the defending MIAC Outdoor long jump champion reaching 18-1.75 in only her first season in the event.

Track - St. Thomas University junior Heidi Vogel (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) ran 59.28 in the 400, a provisional qualifier and also ran 26.43 in the 200 at the Parent's Day Open held at the Universty of Minnesota. Both performances place her atop the MIAC honor roll this year. Vogel placed 3rd in both events at the meet.
Field - Gustavus Adolphus sophomore thrower Jackie Luehmann (Lewiston,Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) won the weight throw and took second in the shot put at the University on Minnesota's Parents Day Meet. Her shot put throw of 43' 11 1/2" automatically qualified her for the indoor national meet. Last year Luehmann was MIAC conference champion and an All American in the shot put both indoors and outdoors.

Track - St. Olaf College junior Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) won two individual events, and ran a leg on the winning 4 X 400 M relay team (4:10.47) at the Saint Mary's Invitational this past Saturday. Daymont posted a time of 59.97 in the 400 meters and came back shortly after with a 3:01.38 in the 1000 M. Both individual performances as well as the relay time, set new facility records at Saint Mary's and are also the top times thus far in the MIAC in those events. Daymont has the best MIAC times in the 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 M events and has met the provisional national qualifying standards in both the 800 M and the 1500 M runs.
Field - Saint Mary's University first-year Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) won the high jump at the Saint Mary's Invitational with a 5'3" jump. Dingels has already met the automatic national qualifying standard in the high jump at 5'7". Dingels, the top high jumper in the MIAC, is one of only 4 jumpers in the country to have cleared that height.
