2007 MIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Awards

St. Paul, Minn. -- The 2007 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships came to a close on Saturday evening with the St. Olaf men and the Gutavus women capturing the team titles. Individual awards were presented on Saturday as well, below are the award winners.
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC selected the first annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship teams for Swimming & Diving. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
Women's Swimmer of the Meet - Kate Alexander, Carleton
- Alexander (Fy., Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) won three individual events, setting MIAC meet and overall records in winning the 200 and 400 Yard Individual Medleys and adding a third win in the 200-yard breaststroke. She also added a victory in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay on Saturday.
Women's Diver of the Meet - Alyssa Germeroth, St. Olaf
- Germeroth (Fy., Scottsdale, Ariz.) won the 1 and 3-meter diving events in her first ever MIAC Championships. Her score of 413.10 in the 1-meter competition was good enough for a NCAA 11-Dive Qualifying mark.
Women's Swimming Coach of the Year - Tom Hodgson, St. Thomas
- Hodgson's Tommies broke five school records and placed fifth out of 11 teams (331 points) at the championships. The 28-year head coach led St. Thomas to their best season in more than a decade.
Diving Coach of the Year - Gabe Kortuem, St. Olaf
- Kortuem coached the winners of all four diving events at the MIAC Championships. St. Olaf's Christian Lorentzen and Alyssa Germeroth won both the 1 and 3-meter competitions for the men and women, respectively.
