University of St. Thomas senior goaltender Joe Schraeder (East Stroudsberg, Pa./Berkshire) stopped 38 of 39 shots over 63:27 to help the third-seed Tommies knock off top-seed Gustavus in overtime, 2-1, in Wednesday's MIAC playoff title game. Schraeder helped UST post road upsets in overtime of No. 9 Hamline (5-4) and No. 6 Gustavus (2-1) in a five-day span. The Tommies fell behind 1-0 early to both Gustavus and Hamline but Schraeder had important early saves to keep his team in the games. A first-year starter, the senior has come up big during the Tommies' recent 7-1 run with a 2.70 GAA and .906 save percentage in that eight-game span. UST was 6-9-4 and allowing four goals a game before its recent hot streak. The Tommies will return to St. Peter to face the Gusties in an NCAA first-round game this Wednesday night.
