St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2007-08 MIAC Women's Hockey Awards today, February 27, 2008. Gustavus defender Laura Vannelli was selected as the 2007-08 Sheila Brown Award recipient. The award is given to a senior who has made a long-term contribution to her team’s success and who has consistently competed with good sportsmanship. Vannelli was selected as the recipient based on four main criteria 1) Team Leadership; 2) Sportsmanship and volunteer work; 3) Academic Excellence; 4) Hockey skills and production.

Concordia head coach Ace Gregg was named the 2007-08 MIAC Coach of the Year. Gregg led the Cobbers to a third place finish in the conference with 10-6-2 record. The Cobbers will play in their first MIAC Playoff game since the 2002-03 season on Saturday.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announces the second annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's hockey. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
