Former Macalester All-American Nathan Knox '04 is returning to the Minnesota Thunder professional soccer club after being traded over the weekend by the Atlanta Silverbacks for Thunder forward Aaron Paye.
After playing with the national champion Seattle Sounders in 2007, the two-time Macalester All-America midfielder signed with Atlanta this past off-season. He returns to Minnesota, where he played during the 2005 and 2006 campaigns.
Thunder general manager Djorn Buchholz said that Paye "is not reaching his potential as a goal scorer and needs a change of scenery." Knox, Buchholz said, should give the Thunder "the true target forward that we don't have right now."
Knox from Christchurch, New Zealand, has also played soccer in the US off-season for Canterbury United of the New Zealand National League. At Mac, he was selected MIAC Player of the Year in ’03 and finished his collegiate career with 20 goals and 15 assists.
