St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2009 MIAC Softball Awards today, May 13, 2009. Leading the All-Conference team is MIAC Player of the Year Rachael Click of Gustavus and MIAC Pitcher of the Year Marta Radcliffe of St. Thomas.

Click, a senior infielder for the Gusties, led the MIAC in batting average (.552), runs batted in (32), total bases (74) and home runs (12) during the 2009 season. She also had 23 runs, 12 walks, four doubles, and a triple during the 22-game MIAC schedule.

St. Thomas junior Marta Radcliffe was 11-2 in her 17 appearances in MIAC play. She threw 70 innings, striking out 84 while only walking 28. Radcliffe finished the conference season with a 1.40 ERA, allowing only 14 earned runs and 37 hits.

Gustavus first-year infielder Lisa Klass was chosen as the MIAC Rookie of the Year. Klass batted .408 (20-for-49) with 19 RBI, 18 runs, seven doubles, and two home runs in conference games.

Jeff Annis, in his fourth season as Gustavus head coach, was named the MIAC Coach of the Year. The Gusties won the MIAC regular season title with a 21-1 conference record. After receiving an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, the Gusties won the Midwest Regional and will now play in the NCAA Championships starting on Friday.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the third annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for softball. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
