CSCAA honors 12 MIAC teams with Scholar Award

St. Paul, Minn. -- The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) have named 12 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) swimming & diving teams as Scholar All-American teams for the Fall 2009 semester.

St. Catherine University, under the direction of head coach Nicole Hempler, had the eighth highest team GPA among women's teams in Division III and the best in the MIAC with a 3.45 GPA. Other MIAC women's teams included among the award winners were: Carleton College (3.39 Team GPA, Coach Andrew Clark), College of Saint Benedict (3.38 GPA, Kathy Walker), Concordia College (3.33 GPA, Julie Lucier), University of St. Thomas (3.31 GPA, Tom Hodgson), Macalester College (3.29 GPA, Bob Pearon), Gustavus Adolphus College (3.28 GPA, Jon Carlson), and Hamline University (3.06 GPA, Frank Vaccaro).

The Carleton College men's team, led by head coach Andrew Clark, had a 3.27 team GPA which is best in the MIAC and 13th best in Division III for men's teams. Other men's teams making the list included: Hamline University (3.20 Team GPA, Coach Frank Vaccaro), Macalester College (3.19 GPA, Bob Pearson), and Gustavus Adolphus College (3.06 GPA, Jon Carlson).
