Saint John's finishes fourth at NCAA Championships

HERSHEY, Pa. – Saint John’s finished fourth out of 37 teams at the 2010 NCAA Division III Golf Championship on Friday, May 14, in Hershey, Pa.

The Johnnies’ posted their second consecutive three-over par 291 to finish fourth with a four-day total of 1191 (+43). No. 1 Methodist (N.C.) held off Guilford (N.C.) by one stroke to win the national title with an 1177 (+29).

Freshman Mark Giorgi (Red Wing, Minn.) posted a three-under par 69, thanks to six birdies, to lead SJU in the final round. He tied for 13th overall with a 294 (+7). Senior Ben Vangsness (Alexandria, Minn.) ended his collegiate career with a one-under par 71 to also tie for 13th overall.

Sophomore Tony Krogen (Marshall, Minn.) ended a stellar season with a two-over par 74 and junior Ben Cahill (Grand Rapids, Minn.) tallied a 77 (+5).  Freshman Dennis Granath (Bandhagen, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium) posted a 79 (+7) to tie for 35th overall (+14).

The Johnnies have now finished in the top eight of the national tournament in nine of their 11 appearances (four in the top five).
