St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2010 MIAC Women's Tennis Awards today, May 7, 2010.
The 2010 Chris Evert Award was given to Gustavus Adolphus College senior Sierra Krebsbach. The award annually recognizes a senior tennis student-athlete with outstanding sportsmanship and exemplary athletic, academic, and humanitarian accomplishments.
Gustavus Adolphus College's Jon Carlson and Saint Mary's University's Jeff Halberg were named the 2010 MIAC Women's Tennis Co-Coaches of the Year. Carlson led the Gusties to their 19th consecutive MIAC regular season title with a 10-0 conference record. Halberg's Cardinals are the sixth seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs and finished the regular season with a 12-7 record (4-6 in the MIAC).
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the fourth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's tennis. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
