ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Several standout student-athletes were honored Monday with Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete-of-the-Week awards in their respective sports. Throughout the 2011-12 winter season, the MIAC will present awards in basketball, hockey, swimming and diving and indoor track and field, with the winner announced each Monday afternoon.

The two MIAC Basketball Athletes-of-the-Week have helped their team to some impressive recent winning streaks. Daniel Baah has led Bethel to four straight wins, including two last week when he averaged 21.5 points per game while shooting the lights out from the floor and the free throw line. Meanwhile, St. Thomas' Taylor Young nearly averaged a double-double with 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week to push the Tommies' streak to 17-straight wins, including a perfect 15-0 conference record thus far in 2011-12.

On the ice, Augsburg's Trevor Doden earned the MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week award for contributing four goals - including a hat trick and an overtime game-winner - to his team's weekend sweep of Saint Mary's. The women's honor went to Tommie goalie Alise Riedel, who also led her team to a MIAC sweep. Reidel allowed just one goal, stopping 52 of 53 shots, and recorded one shutout in a two-game sweep of St. Olaf over the weekend.

St. Thomas diver Jennifer Easton added MIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week to her big week. Easton broke the MIAC 1-meter diving record with a score of 461.50 over the weekend in which she swept all four diving events she entered and helped her team to an impressive two days of competition. There were no nominees for the men's award.

On the track, Augsburg freshmen John Spray and Mike Harley are getting good at sharing. The duo tied for first in the high jump over the weekend while also sharing the new Auggie school record in the event, and Monday they also got to share the MIAC Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week award. The Women's Indoor Track honor also went to an Auggie, as Ashley Carney was rewarded for her first-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a MIAC-leading time. The field honor went to Tommie senior Amy Maas for her double victory at the St. Olaf Invitational. She won both the shot put and weight throw and ranks second in the conference in both events. There were no nominees for the men's indoor track honor.

The MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week awards will be given out each week to top performers in each sport throughout the 2011-12 season. Student-athletes are nominated by their coaches and sports information directors, with winners chosen by a selection committee.
