St. Olaf wins 2004 MIAC Cross Country team title / St. Olaf's Kelly Fulton claims 2004 first place individual finish
St. Paul, Minn. - The Carleton College women's claimed its first conference title since 1991 and the St. Olaf College men's earned its first crown since 1976 at the 2004 MIAC Cross Country Championships at St. Paul's Como Park.
Carleton's 71 team points easily outdistanced defending champion Gustavus Adolphus College at 100 points. College of St. Benedict junior Leah Wurm took the individual title in 18:53.3, becoming the first Blazer to win the individual MIAC title. The Knights' Cassie Funke placed second in 19:07.8 as Carleton put all five scoring runners into the top 25.
St. Olaf, meanwhile, road a tough one-two finish from Kelly Fulton and Malcolm Richards to claim its first conference title in 28 years. Fulton's 26:10.5 was followed by Richards' time of 26:15.5. Carleton was second with 56 points to the Oles' 43, as both schools pushed four runners into the top 15.
