12/5/11 - The Salvation Army held its 4th annual Mascot Challenge on Saturday, December 3, 2011. The Mascot Challenge was a special event for the Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign. The event raised more than $2,620.00. The mascots from Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead and North Dakota State University "battled" it out at Scheels for several hours on Saturday. The Kernel, Scorch and Thundar enthusiastically greeted shoppers, banterd with one another and posed for pictures with fans while student-athletes and athletic department leaders rang the bells in hopes that their kettle would raise the most money. 11/1/11 - The Augsburg College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) organized and took part in a volunteer event with Special Olympics Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Treasure Island bowling venue. Fifteen Auggies volunteered for the regional bowling competition.
At the event, each volunteer was in charge of monitoring a bowling lane, making sure the athletes bowled when it was their turn and on the correct lane. Read More |

5/6/11 - The MIAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and other student-athlete volunteers lent their time and services to Rebuilding Together on April 30, 2011, as part of National Rebuilding Day. The group helped make improvements to a low-income home in North Minneapolis, including concrete work in the garage and on the front steps, and indoor projects like installing railings, painting and fixing electrical wires. The project was featured on the MIAC Web site on May 6, 2011.

12/17/10 - The Dec. 17, 2010, MIAC Friday Feature focused on service projects and volunteer efforts that MIAC SAACs had done on their campuses during the Fall 2010 semester. Included were Concordia's "Mascot Challenge," St. Thomas' Up Till Dawn project with St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Catherine's work at the Ronald McDonald House and more. Read More

11/30/10 - The St. Catherine University Wildcat Student Athlete Advisory Committee (WSAAC) took time out of their final exam preparations to head over to the Ronald McDonald House to spread holiday cheer.
Eleven student-athletes, matching the number of women's varsity sports offered at SCU, volunteered to decorate the house for the holiday season. 4/29/10 - The MIAC SAAC partnered with Rebuilding Together-Twin Cities this past Saturday, April 24 as 22 student-athletes helped in a home renovation project in North Minneapolis. 1/3/10 - The Augsburg College women's hockey team's clinic with the Minnesota Special Hockey's Woodbury Eagles squad was featured on the WCCO-TV (Channel 4 in the Twin Cities) 10 p.m. news on Sunday (1/3). 12/16/09 - The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MIAC SAAC) completed its eighth annual Toys for Teens Drive with a group donation at NBC KARE 11 in Golden Valley, Minn. on Tuesday night, December 15. During the 2009 Toys for Teens Drive, SAAC groups from the 13 MIAC campuses collected a record-setting 380 toys and nearly $2,500. Read More |

10/13/09 - Macalester’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council raised over $1,700 to help fight breast cancer last Friday (Oct. 9) at volleyball’s “Dig Pink Night” match with Augsburg and the women’s soccer “Kick Cancer Night” match with UW-River Falls. Dig Pink Night contributions totaled over $1,300 for the Side-Out Foundation. At soccer’s Kick Cancer Night, and a silent auction for the three pink game balls and contributions at the gate brought $400 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation . Read More |

8/31/09 - The Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) from Macalester and St. Thomas are working together to organize a food and fund drive during the football game between Macalester and St. Thomas on Saturday, September 5th. Donations will go to a local food bank in St. Paul, Second Harvest Heartland, the largest food bank in the upper-Midwest. Read More |

4/30/09 - Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) student-athletes recently took a day out of their busy schedules to help "rebuild" the Twin Cities. Working through Rebuilding Together Twin Cities, 19 MIAC student-athletes volunteered on Saturday, April 25 to do a variety of projects at two St. Paul homes. 1/22/09 - Macalester volleyball player Marie Godwin spent last week (Jan. 14-17) attending the annual NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C. Godwin, a three-year letter-winner for the Scots, serves on the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and & Ethical Conduct. 12/19/08 - The seventh annual MIAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MIAC SAAC) Toys for Teens Drive wrapped up on Thursday night, December 18 as SAAC representatives and administrators gathered at NBC KARE 11 in Golden Valley. SAAC groups on each of the 13 MIAC campuses collected over 400 toys and nearly $1,500 for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. 11/18/08 - Saint Mary's held their first annual Cardinal Athletic Council (CAC) Athlete Competition Day. Over 200 varsity student-athletes participated in the event. Athletes were placed on teams of 10-12 with coaches running stations. At each station, two teams competed against one another and the team that won the challenge received a point. The team with the most points at the end of the competition received t-shirts. Overall, 18 coaches helped out at 12 stations between the track, pool, ice rink, soccer field, field house and gym. |

10/28/08 - Gustavus Adolphus College senior women's hockey student-athlete Jessie Doig (New Prague, Minn.) will have the unique opportunity to blog for the NCAA at www.ncaa.com. Doig is one of a select few from Division I, II, and III who will give an account of her experiences as a college student-athlete. Her blog started last week and will run through the entire season. 10/21/08 - The Saint Mary's University men's basketball team has joined forces with the St. Stanislaus Middle School to form a partnership for the 2008-09 school year. The "Adopt a School / Adopt a Team" program will run throughout the school year, with players and coaches from the SMU men's basketball team visiting St. Stan's two-to-three times a month to assist in the staff and teachers in a variety of activities, stressing leadership, teammwork, being a good classmate/teammate and positive behavior. 10/12/08 - Macalester's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and the athletic department helped raise over $2,200 to fight breast cancer during Dig Pink / Kick Cancer Night on Friday, October 3 during home Macalester volleyball and women’s soccer matches. The money raised during the events and will be donated to local and national Breast Cancer foundations to raise awareness, educate women and aid research that will hopefully result in a cure for this dreaded disease. 3/11/08 - College of Saint Benedict SAAC and St. John’s University SAAC teamed up yet again for the 5th Annual SAAC Formal. This year’s fundraiser collected $1545 for the Special Olympics Minnesota Chapter, beating their goal of $1500. A total of 300 guests participated in the dinner dance, which was held in the Gorecki Dining and Conference Center for the first time. Read More |

2/8/08 - Macalester’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and the Macalester Kilt Krew sponsored “Think Pink” day at the Mac vs. St. Olaf basketball doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 9) and raised about $750 for the Susan G. 4/26/07 - For one Saturday, a group of MIAC student-athletes traded in their uniforms and gear for some old work clothes and paint brushes. Typical Saturdays for this group includes winning races, scoring goals, and catching touchdowns, but on April 21 these student-athletes fixed siding, climbed ladders, and painted an entire house.
