2000 MIAC Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week
October 31, 2000
College of St. Benedict, Shannon Curry (Senior, Striker, Burnsville) tallied three goals and two assists in St. Benedict's come from behind 6-1 win over Concordia on Wedneday, Oct. 25th. Curry notched the equalizer in the first half, then got the gamewinner and the last goal in the second half. It was a must win game as the Blazers needed to beat both Concordia and St. Thomas to share in a tie for second place in the MIAC. Curry's outstanding play, both offensively and defensively, in the St. Thomas match, helped St. Benedict earn their second place finish.

University of St. Thomas first year goalkeeper Jessica Christopherson (Coon Rapids, MN) earned her 5th shutout in the conference last week against Carleton. Christopherson had a spectacular diving save that she didn't even see but she was able to instinctively stop it. Christopherson has a .50 GAA in the conference and has been extremely solid for the Tommies. St. Thomas is 6-0-2 in MIAC play this season and are currently ranked 23rd in the nation.

University of St. Thomas senior Katie Thompson, Defender (West St. Paul, Simely H.S.) was the Tommie team leader last week. Thompson's leadership on the field was instrumental in a 0-0 tie against Macalester and the 3-2 win over Gustavus. Thompson is the Tommies most vocal player and would not allow the team to give up even though they were behind 1-0 and 2-1 at Gustavus. Her performance was without a doubt unmeasurable to the Tommie success last week.

Katie Blackman, College of St. Benedict (So., Forward, Blaine) tallied four goals in two conference games last week, scoring against Hamline in the Blazers 3-1 win on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and then notching three goals in the second half in a come from behind victory over St. Olaf Saturday, Oct. 7.

Katie Cullen (Eagan, MN), Gustavus Adolphus College, Senior, Midfielder tallied five assists this week as Gustavus won three MIAC contests. Cullen tallied three against St. Mary's as the Gusties downed the Cardinals 4-2 in Winona on Wednesday. On Saturday, the Gusties traveled to St. Benedicts where Cullen had a hand in both goals for the Gustie's 2-0 win. She now has 8 assists for the year.
September 26, 2000 -- Co-Players of the Week
Renee Beaudry, Gustavus, Sophomore midfielder from Apple Valley, MN - Beaudry scored four goals and one assist as the Gusties strung together three wins since Sunday, Sept 17. Renee scored two goals against Elmhurst, a goal and an assist against St. Olaf, and a goal against Concordia.
Macalester goalkeeper Lisa Bauer (FY, Goalkeeper, Woodbury, MN) registered shutouts last week over St. Benedict and Wisconsin-River Falls. Bauer came up with five saves in Macalester's 2-0 win Tuesday (Sept.19) over the Blazers, and added three saves Thursday (Sept. 21) in a 6-0 victory over UWRF. Bauer has a 0.14 goals against average for the 7-0 Scots.
