2002 MIAC Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week
November 4, 2002
University of St. Thomas goalkeeper Jessica Christopherson (Junior, CoonRapids, Minn.) recorded two huge shutouts last week against Carleton (W, 2-0) and Concordia (W, 5-0) to keep the Tommies in the MIAC title race. Christopherson was the anchor of the Tommies defense and was determined not to allow any goals. She has a .32 goals against average in the conference.

Augsburg College goalkeeper Laura Hoffman (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had 13 saves for the Auggies in their 0-0 tie against Gustavus on Saturday. Hoffman claimed her ninth shutout of the season and 16th in her three-year career, tying a 1997 single-season school record for goalkeeper shutouts at Augsburg. She is in second place on the school's all-time shutout record list. Hoffman's goals-against-average of 0.26 is among the top 10 in the nation among NCAA Division III women's soccer goalkeepers.

College of Saint Benedict forward Megan McVoy (Sophomore, Omaha, Neb.) scored the equalizer in the Blazers 1-1 tie against St. Thomas, a key MIAC opponent on Tuesday, and also scored against 12th nationally rank University of Chicago in CSB's 2-1 win on Saturday.

College of Saint Benedict midfielder Kate Aubrecht (First-Year, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) notched an assist in the Blazers 1-0 win over St. Catherine and then tallied 4 goals and an assist in CSB's 7-0 victory over Bethel this week.
University of St. Thomas defender Sarah Bird (Sophomore, West Des Moines, IA/Dowling HS) helped the Tommies earn two shutouts in conference play this week. Bird is UST's starting stopper, but was moved to the sweeper position against Gustavus. The Tommies post shutout victories over Gustavus (2-0 win) and Hamline (5-0 win). UST currently has a seven game winning streak and improved their record to 8-3-1 (6-0-1 MIAC).

University of St. Thomas senior midfielder Tessa Thompson (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) scored 4 goals and tallied 2 assists in two big victories this week for the Tommies. UST posted a 6-1 win over Bethel (Thompson: 3 goals, 1 assist) and against victory over UW-Lacrosse (1 goal, 1 assist).

College of Saint Benedict junior striker Mel Attema (Minnetonka, Minn.) had a goal and an assist in the Blazers only match this week, a 3-1 win over Gustavus. CSB is now 3-0 in the MIAC and 5-2-2 overall.

Augsburg College first-year forward Millie Suk (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had a tremendous week, leading the Auggies to two victories and a 4-2 overall record (2-2 MIAC). In just her fifth collegiate game on Tuesday at Saint Mary's, Suk notched a three-goal hat trick, providing all the goals in Augsburg's 3-0 win. On Saturday at Bethel, Suk scored the lone goal of the game on an unassisted first-half tally, as Augsburg won 1-0. Suk currently leads the Auggies with four goals and one assist for nine points. Augsburg is off to its best start in women's soccer since the 1997 season (4-0-1 en route to finishing 10-5-3).
