2009-10 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships - Day 3 Recap
Minneapolis, Minn. -- (Courtesy of Brett Crevier) The 2009-10 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships concluded Saturday night with the St. Thomas men and the Gustavus women claiming team titles at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The St. Thomas’ men’s swimming & diving team won their first championship since 1953-54 as they finished with 709 points. Gustavus Adolphus College claimed their third team title on the women’s side in the last four years as they totaled 744 points.
On the men’s side, St. Thomas edged out Gustavus to take first place by eight points, 709-701. Finishing in third was St. Olaf with 615.5 points. The fourth place finisher was Saint John’s (542.5) followed by Carleton who finished with 415 points. Gustavus won the women’s title with 744 points. Finishing in second was Carleton with 588.5 points. St. Thomas finished in third place (497). Finishing in fourth was St. Olaf with 473 points. Rounding out the top five for the women was Saint Benedict who finished the meet with 387 points.
Multiple strong individual performances highlighted Saturday’s session. Senior Skylar Davis (Palatine, Ill.) of Gustavus set a meet record Saturday night in the 1650 with a time of 15:48.27. Carley Mosher (Great Falls, Mont.) of Gustavus finished in first in tonight’s 200 yard backstroke with a NCAA A Qualifying time of 2:03.57. St. Thomas senior Peter Mullee (Madison, Wis./Memorial) set a meet record when he finished in first in Saturday’s 200 yard backstroke with a NCAA A Qualifying time of 1:47.34. With a second place finish in the 200 yard backstroke was St. Olaf’s Chris Bateman who finished with a NCAA A Qualifying time of 1:48.06. Becca Ney (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) won her third event of the championships when she finished in first in the 100 yard free with a NCAA A Qualifying time of 51.01.
