2007 MIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Awards

St. Paul, Minn. -- The 2007 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships came to a close on Saturday evening with the St. Olaf men and the Gutavus women capturing the team titles. Individual awards were presented on Saturday as well, below are the award winners.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC selected the first annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship teams for Swimming & Diving. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.

Men's Swimmer of the Meet - Nelson Westby, St. Olaf
- Westby (So., Salem, Ore./West Salem) recorded victories in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, the 100 Yard Butterfly, and the 100 Yard Breaststroke. He also combined with his Ole teammates to win the 200 and 400 Yard Medley Relays.

Men's Diver of the Meet - Christian Lorentzen, St. Olaf
- Lorentzen (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) won his fourth straight MIAC Diver of the Meet award by winning the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions. His score of 492.70 in Saturday's 3-meter final surpassed a NCAA 11-Dive Qualifying mark.

Men's Swimming Coach of the Year - Bob and Dave Hauck, St. Olaf
- St. Olaf captured its first conference title since 2001 and 23rd since 1977 under the direction of Bob and Dave Hauck. The Oles 843.50 beat out five-time reigning champion Gustavus by five points for the 2007 championship.

Diving Coach of the Year - Gabe Kortuem, St. Olaf
- Kortuem coached the winners of all four diving events at the MIAC Championships. St. Olaf's Christian Lorentzen and Alyssa Germeroth won both the 1 and 3-meter competitions for the men and women, respectively.
